The almanac was published on the occasion of the 155th anniversary of the company’s founding in 2019 and stands out for its precise graphic design and breadth of coverage. Not only does it map the historical context in the years of the company’s foundation, but also the period during the First and Second World Wars. It describes the nationalization of the company in 1948 and its re-acquisition into the hands of the PETROF family in the 1990s. It also provides us with an insight into current projects, such as the establishment of the free association of artists PETROF Art Family, the organization of the international study program PETROF Fest, the division of non-piano commissions and references of important artists.
In addition to many other interesting facts, you will find out when was the only time in the company’s entire existence that production had to be completely stopped, what was produced in the factory during the Second World War, and where the two master pianos decorated with 145-million-year-old wooden fossils went.
The Almanac also includes a timeline with important milestones in the company’s history.
During the creation of the Almanac, a wide range of sources were used, including the PETROF family archive, the State Regional Archives in Hradec Králové and Zámrsk, and the Museum of Eastern Bohemia in Hradec Králové.
The author of the text is PhDr. Marek Šimůnek.
The author of the illustrations is the prominent Czech graphic artist Karel Demel, whose artistic profession is based on his primary musical profession, as evidenced by his works motivated by his admiration for J.S. Bach, B. Smetana or A. Dvořák.
